Where to buy a Mac?
Apple products are widely available to purchase online and within stores. Prices are uniform across all retailers although, in our experience, there are certain benefits from purchasing from particular retailers.
The advice here is based on the UK market but similar deals may be available in markets worldwide.
Many people choose to buy directly from Apple which in our opinion is a wise move. In store, Apple will stock the latest versions of their products – this may not necessarily be true of other retailers (e.g. Dixons, PCWorld). However, John Lewis offer a complimentary two-year extended warranty on Apple computers purchased through them.
Education Discount
If you are a student, teacher or have a child in school then you are eligible for an education discount from Apple.
Higher Education Discount
If you are a student or member of academic staff at a university then you are eligible for a higher education discount from Apple. The amount of discount varies dependending on the unversity to which you are affiliated. To obtain the Higher Education Discount you will need to purchase your Apple products online using your University network (either directly or using VPN for offsite access). From experience, a valid NUS or library card will be accepted in-store.
Details on education pricing can be found here: Education Discount.
Apple Refurb Store
Sometimes users return unwanted Macs or their Mac develops a fault and is replaced. These Macs are checked and repaired and then sold on the Apple Refurb Store.
